Right from the start of your trip Tubize, a centre of the steel industry, with the Clabecq blast furnaces, reminds visitors of the economic importance of this region during the 20th century. You make your way in total safety along the Charleroi–Brussels canal towards Ronquières.
Your trip then continues in peace and quiet along the edge of the Charleroi–Brussels historical canal, crossing through Arquennes and Seneffe. The centre of Seneffe boasts a remarkable castle built in the 18th century.
Finally, the Canal du Centre RAVeL takes you to the end of this first stage, La Louvière, fief of Aulne Abbey in medieval times and former coal-mining basin of the region. It is also a major carnival centre in Wallonia.
