Find my route
The first part of your route runs along the Line 142 RAVeL. You cross the Hesbaye, one of Belgium’s most beautiful agricultural regions, alternating between opulent fields of wheat and beetroot. After stopping in Jodoigne, your trip continues peacefully through the delightful crop-filled expanses and architecture of the Hesbaye region. Following in the footsteps of the Roman legions that once crossed this region as they conquered Gaul, you reach the capital of Wallonia, Namur. Its historic centre and art of good living captivate more and more visitors every year.
The second part of your route, along the RAVeL of the Meuse and The Meuse by bike, takes you deep into one of Europe’s most beautiful river valleys. The Upper Meuse boasts superb sites such as the famous cliffs and gardens of Freyr Castle or the Dinant Citadel. In Hermeton, you leave the Meuse and make your way along the old No 56 railway line towards Agimont and Givet (F).
Finally, the third part of the route follows the Lesse & Semois cycle route, passing through Beauraing, Wellin, Daverdisse, Bièvre, Gedinne and Vresse-sur-Semois. From the limestone of the Lesse to the wild landscapes of the Ardennes massif and the meandering Semoy river, let yourself be enchanted by places full of history and inspiring views.
You start your trip as you leave the village of Hoegaarden, in Flanders, well-known for its famous white beer. This spot marks the start of the RAVeL along the old No 142 railway line which follows its own path throughout the stage on the edge of Walloon Brabant and the Hesbaye.
As you leave Namur, you are enveloped by the relaxing atmosphere of the Meuse RAVeL. You pass through the village of Wépion, recognised the world over for its strawberries.
You gradually enter the most beautiful part of the Meuse valley with its many cliffs and superb sites such as the famous Annevoie gardens.
Leave Dinant along the RAVeL on the right bank of the Meuse passing below the cliffs of the Bayard rock. As you go round one of the bends in the winding Meuse, the prestigious Freyr castle comes into view, surrounded by its famous gardens and rocks, a mountain climbing centre in Wallonia.
Further downstream, Waulsort castle is also worth a look. Hastière, a typical Mosan village, gives you a chance to unwind.
From Beauraing, on the Calestienne plateau, beautiful limestone villages stretch along your route.
In Neupont, you enter the Ardennes by following the course of the Lesse river and the RAVeL of Line 518.
From Gedinne, the cycle route follows the ridge lines before descending steeply to the Semois valley.
